The streetscape project, which includes boardwalk-style sidewalks lined with street lights and outdoor speakers, was the first in a series of improvements designed to get residents – and private investors – to explore Old Town Temecula.

"South Korea grew a faster-than-expected 5.3 percent in the first quarter due to strong exports, the central bank said while warning that high oil prices and a slowing China may pose a threat to the economy.
It was the highest quarterly Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate since the fourth quarter of 2002 when GDP grew 7.5 percent year-on-year, the Bank of Korea said in a statement.
The growth in January-March GDP beat market expectations and eclipsed the 3.9 percent gain in the previous quarter, with strong exports more than offsetting slow domestic demand."

Kernan, Daniels Launch Tax Debate
From: www.rga.org
"INDIANAPOLIS -- Democratic Gov. Joe Kernan and Republican challenger Mitch Daniels traded fire Wednesday over Daniels' call for automatic tax abatements for new business investment.
Kernan said the plan would cost about $1.2 billion over 10 years, paid by other property taxpayers or from state coffers.
Automatic abatements would eliminate local control over the size and length of abatements, Kernan said, while handing communities the bill in the form of reduced property tax revenues.
"Now is not the time to be piling on mandates on local communities and local property taxpayers," Kernan said in a news release."
Budgeteer News - Duluth, Minnesota

"An expert being anybody from more than 50 miles away, Cleveland State economic development professor Ned Hill had all the credentials necessary to make his audience, the Duluth City Council, sit up and listen.
We'll find out whether or not the councilors heard anything as soon as Monday night.
Hill ran off a litany of stagnation last week, explaining to the council why Duluth is a lousy place to do business. He noted one overriding truth: Investment dollars are going elsewhere because elsewhere a friendlier climate for business exists."
