Half-cent tax proposed for economic development
From: NewsTrove.com
"A half-cent property tax increase to fund economic development might be added to an expected 1-cent hike to pay for a new courts facility. If both measures were approved, the county's tax rate would increase from 36 cents per $100 valuation to 37.5 cents.
The call for the half-cent tax increase came from commissioner Larry Shafer during a budget review Thursday.
"It's time to bite the bullet and get economic development going in Hood County," said Shafer.
Shafer said the additional tax would raise about $130,000 a year, more than enough to provide the county's share of $100,000 to set up an economic development department."

Resistance Rising Over Tax Hikes
From: NewsTrove.com
"Public resistance to property tax hikes is growing in some affluent areas in southern Seoul and Kyonggi Province as more and more residents are filing complaints with local authorities to demand a tax reduction.
In the face of mounting anger over the tax increases, the councils of Kuri and Songnam, Kyonggi Province, last week decided to cut property tax rates for the first half of the year by 30 percent for homeowners in the sprawling residential cities.
The councils' decision challenges the central government's tax policy, which aims to establish a fairer system by imposing a greater tax burden on the rich."
