Prison director turns full-time professor
From: NewsTrove.com
"After 35 years in law enforcement, Utah’s executive director of Prison Corrections stepped down and is teaching at Weber State University full time.
“I just enjoy teaching and it’s just exciting for me,” said Mike Chabries, assistant professor of criminal justice. “I mean I really look forward to teaching.”
The Aug. 1 resignation lowered his blood pressure by 20 points, Chabries joked. But the trials Chabries endured during in his former position give depth to his teaching. While he fights getting sidetracked with too many prison stories, Chabries uses his experience to show criminal justice principles."
AP Wire | 09/02/2004 | Text of President Bush's RNC Speech
From: NewsTrove.com
"The times in which we live and work are changing dramatically. The workers of our parents' generation typically had one job, one skill, one career - often with one company that provided health care and a pension. And most of those workers were men. Today, workers change jobs, even careers, many times during their lives, and in one of the most dramatic shifts our society has seen, two-thirds of all moms also work outside the home.
This changed world can be a time of great opportunity for all Americans to earn a better living, support your family, and have a rewarding career. And government must take your side."
Bush presents economic initiatives to foster `ownership society'
From: NewsTrove.com
"NEW YORK
-
(KRT) - Pounded by Sen. John Kerry on the economy, President Bush countered Thursday night with an ambitious agenda to overhaul the federal tax code, and perhaps even replace it, and create an "ownership society" that would include allowing Americans to set up private Social Security accounts.
The president presented an array of economic initiatives designed to promote home ownership and finance health care and said he would double the amount of money now being spent on federal job-training programs, an effort to inoculate himself against charges he has done little to help displaced workers."

Russian oil giant Yukos says new ruling means production in imminent danger
From: NewsTrove.com
"The statement by the Yukos oil company followed a court decision Tuesday that froze accounts in its subsidiary companies. "The account freeze paralyzes the production activities of Yukos," the company said.
Analysts doubted, however, that President Vladimir Putin would allow a fall in crude output in an industry that accounts for much of Russia's budget intake and has spurred the country's recent economic growth.
A Yukos spokesman said prosecutors were seeking to seize $2.6 billion US from the accounts of Yukos subsidiaries as part of resolving a 2000 back-taxes bill for $3.4 billion US."
