Buying a second home? Do your homework
From: NewsTrove.com

"The hottest spot in many resort towns no longer is the joint selling the biggest bucket of fries. It's the local real-estate office. The National Association of Realtors estimates that Americans bought a record 445,000 second homes last year. The trend isn't limited to well-known beach resorts. Second-home sales also are booming in places such as Central Oregon, Spearfish, S.D., and Fergus Falls, Minn. In many rural areas, "for sale" signs are beginning to crowd out ads for live bait. This is prime time for the vacation-home market because many potential buyers are visiting their favorite summer haunts."

NCM > Proposal to Tax Overseas Filipino Workers Receives Mixed Reactions
From: NewsTrove.com

"Rita Villadiego, Sep 20, 2004 NEW YORK - A proposal to reimpose taxes on overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) has elicited mixed reactions from hard-working Filipino workers in New York. Some are completely opposed to it, while others view it as action called for by their home country's fiscal crisis. "I'm opposed to imposing taxes to overseas Filipino workers because it could mean double taxation," said Linda Abad, who cleans apartments to earn a living. "Filipino workers here in New York legally pay taxes to the U.S. government. It will make the life of domestic workers more difficult. Nothing will be left in my salary."
