The Liberal Democrats would allow local authorities to introduce variable waste charging for household waste if elected, the Party said at its Annual Conference this week.
As part of a package of measures to incentivise environmental behaviour, the Lib Dems said a refund system could pay householders to reduce the amount of waste they produce.
The current 1.6 billion spent managing the municipal waste stream each year is set to increase to 3.2 billion by 2020 without a change of policy, the Liberal Democrats warned."

"Audit shows deficit in Galva budget

GALVA -- An auditor told the Galva City Council this week that the city's general fund had a large deficit, all from the economic development activities.
Norm Underwood of Blucker, Kneer of Galesburg went over the annual audit, which shows the general fund with a deficit of $907,678.
"This is not a good position to be in," Underwood said.
He said the general fund has borrowed $820,000 from the water and sewer account.
Underwood said, "B.J. (former city administrator B.J. Cornwall) had focused on economic development but this will also pay back down the road."

"In last week's issue of The View, placed as a front-page headline article, was the response of the Van Buren Public Schools to a letter I had recently sent to senior citizens in our area. The article accused me of spreading "misinformation" regarding the $150 million bond issue before our community. It was never my intent to mislead, but rather to inform persons who otherwise would not even know a vote was about to take place.

On June 16, 1931, Al Capone pled guilty to tax evasion and prohibition charges. He then boasted to the press that he had struck a deal for a two-and-one-half year sentence, but the presiding judge informed him that he, the judge, was not bound by any deal. Capone then changed his plea to not guilty.
On October 18, 1931, Al Capone was convicted after trial, and on November 24, was sentenced to eleven years in Federal prison, fined $50,000 and charged $7,692 for court costs, in addition to $215,000 plus interest due on back taxes."
