"Voice of the People
Applied Card suit angers employee
I have been with Applied Card Systems for four years. I work in collections and, for the record, treat each of my customers the way I want to be treated.
Anger has prompted me to write.
I am angry allegations that may or may not be true will cost me my job. I am angry that I, as an employee of Applied Card Systems, can be slandered publicly in the media. I am angry to be categorized as someone who would speak to "anyone" in a demeaning manner.
I am angry that I will no longer be able to support other local businesses who understand the economical ramifications our community faces."

From: NewsTrove.com
"The Web site currently tells us $4.3 trillion of Treasury debt is
publicly held. About $3 trillion is held by different agencies of
government.
Another Web site maintained by the Treasury Department tells us that
$1.8 trillion of the $4.3 trillion of public debt is owned by foreigners.
The Social Security Trustees Report for 2004 tells us that nearly $1.4
trillion of the $3 trillion of intra-governmental debt is held in the
Social Security Trust Fund.
Treasury debt held by foreigners – which increased $237.2 billion
between January and July – causes some to worry."
Financial advisers offer free advice
From: NewsTrove.com
"They were at their banks withdrawing money from their IRAs. Someone there suggested that they not roll over the money into another CD but invest it elsewhere - typically in variable annuities.
Variable annuities are not "liquid" - you cannot get your money back easily. If you withdraw money, you may be socked with steep surrender charges. These annuities are also expensive. In short, they are poor choice for most older people.
"I've seen portfolios turn into train wrecks because of this inappropriate advice," Benedict said.
Next week, if you have financial questions, you may obtain prompt, expert answers."

"he current issue of Forbes Magazine contains the publication's annual list of the wealthiest Americans, ranked by net worth. While one's first instinct might be to turn away in disgust from such a flaunting of individual wealth and greed, it is instructive to consider the figures, for they provide an important indication of the nature of American society.
According to Forbes, "The economy's recovery may be a little shaky, but you wouldn't know it from looking at this year's Forbes 400. The combined net worth of the nation's wealthiest climbed to $1 trillion, up $45 billion in 12 months."
County near bankruptcy
From: NewsTrove.com
"This coming election for county commissioner is very important to all Ashtabula County taxpayers. It is well known that the county commissioners, Robert Boggs and Debbie Newcomb, have brought this county into near bankruptcy.
The debt for Ashtabula County now exceeds $50 million. This amount was mostly for building the Geneva Lodge and paying for the water lines they took from Consumers Ohio Water Company. The building of the lodge in Geneva was done without competitive bidding. There were very few Ashtabula County contractors allowed to bid on this work."
