Torrance Taxes Take A Climb
From: NewsTrove.com

"Property taxes will be higher this year throughout Torrance County, according to a presentation to the County Commission by County Assessor Cris Pohl. The amount of the increase depends on the size of a home and where in the county the home is located, Pohl said. For a $100,000 home, for example, increases could range from $25 to $40 compared to last year, he said. The 2004 property tax rates were the only agenda item for the regular commission meeting Oct. 6, when commissioners approved the increase. Pohl said tax rates increased because of some recently approved bonds for construction projects and other work at schools in the county."

Labor Notes: October 2004
From: NewsTrove.com

"FEC Restrains 527s. After the 2004 Election The Federal Election Commission issued new regulations significantly restricting the activities of Section 527 groups-political non-party organizations like the union-backed America Coming Together (ACT) and the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth that have roiled the 2004 presidential campaign-but only after the election, beginning January 2005. The regulations limit contributions to 527s to $5,000 when solicitations indicate any portion of the funds will be used to support or oppose a federal candidate. Currently contributions are unlimited, in some cases exceeding $10 million."

By contrast, the economic turnaround we've seen in recent years has resulted in the most astonishing recovery ever recorded. And yet the economic recovery has also launched broad-based concerns regarding the consequences of this new growth - traffic congestion, consumption of open space and farmland and other "quality of life" issues."

You mean to tell me they did not consider this when they bought the machines? Could it possibly be that they were thinking only of the recall vote when they bought them and considered their design?"
