"It's not what it once was. But it's a beautiful voice," says Campbell, who brings up what Dunn sounds like in hopes of drawing attention to what Dunn says. "It's not the voice of rationality," Campbell asserts. "It's just a song."
Dunn laughs at the observation. "I've never had anyone tell me I'm 'mesmerizing.' Usually people tell me I'm too argumentative which is probably true."
Dunn, a Republican, and Campbell, a Democrat, are running against each other for an open House seat in east Vancouver's 17th District."
Mayor prefers higher taxes, no public service cuts

"WAUKESHA - Mayor Carol Lombardi said that if someone rents a couple videos a month, it costs about $10.
The city's executive budget, as proposed, would raise the property taxes of a home assessed at $170,000 by $110 a year, or less than $10 a month. Lombardi is strongly in favor of the executive budget, despite the tax increase, because the alternative means drastic cuts to the city's public safety and services.
"Do you as a property owner feel that less than $10 a month more is going to disrupt who and what you expect your city government to give you?"

"TOPEKA - State officials can't escape the threat of pressure from the courts to raise taxes to benefit Kansas' public schools.
Gov. Kathleen Sebelius and legislators are waiting for clear direction from the Kansas Supreme Court, which is reviewing a lawsuit over whether the school finance system is constitutional. That lawsuit alleges the state distributes money unfairly, hurting poor and minority students the most.
A Supreme Court decision striking down all or parts of the school finance system would push legislators to consider higher taxes next year."
